In our continuous commitment to the well-being and growth of our educational community, Affton School District is pleased to announce a forthcoming leadership transition. Dr. Deann Myers, who has been an exemplar of strength and dedication as our principal at Affton High School, has chosen to take on the role of Coordinator of Learning Services for the 2024-25 school year.
Within this position, Dr. Myers will provide leadership, management, and coordination for a variety of student learning services and projects. Key responsibilities include supporting curriculum, assessment, customized learning, success readiness, and beginning teacher assistance.
βDr. Myers has served as principal for Affton High School since 2019. Her dedication and commitment have always been evident in her interactions with both staff and students alike,β said Dr. Travis Bracht, superintendent. βBringing with her the invaluable perspective of a secondary educator and the experience of principal at Affton High School, she is uniquely positioned to enhance our Learning Team's mission. We are confident that this new chapter will allow Dr. Myers to continue making a significant impact on our educational community.β
"This is a wonderful opportunity to focus on what I am truly passionate about β shaping our educational programs to better prepare our students for the challenges of tomorrow,β said Myers. βRemaining an integral part of the Affton Schools community was very important to me. I'm excited about the prospect of collaborating with our teachers and team throughout the district, introducing and supporting innovative learning strategies, and securing a pathway for every student to unlock their potential."
Prior to coming to Affton, Myers served as assistant principal at Maplewood Richmond Heights High School for nine years. In addition to her administrative experience, she served as an instructional coach for one year and taught science at the high school level for eight years. Myers earned a bachelor of arts in biology education from McKendree University in Lebanon, Il., a master of science in biology education at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, as well as a doctorate in educational leadership from Maryville University in St. Louis, Mo.
Myers grew up near the small town of Worden, Il., where her two grown daughters currently reside. She visits them often, especially now that her saucy granddaughter and adventurous grandson are in the mix. She lives in the Clayton area and spends as much time outdoors as possible. She is a global traveler with a penchant for adventure.
Dr. Jason Buck, Director of College & Career Readiness, will continue serving as Acting Principal at Affton High School through the end of this school year, and Myers will begin serving as Coordinator of Learning Services on July 1. The search for a new Principal will begin immediately, ensuring a smooth transition and continued leadership excellence at Affton High School. We are excited for what the future holds and remain committed to providing the best educational experience for our students.
